5 Simple Korean Makeup Looks to Try this Lunar New Year

The Lunar New Year is just around the corner, which means it’s almost time to dress up and look your best during the gatherings, be it with family or friends.

In anticipation of the upcoming Lunar New Year, I’ve curated 5 simple Korean makeup looks that are inspired from popular Korean makeup artist, Pony.

If you don't know what makeup looks to go for, you can watch Pony's makeup tutorials to gain some inspiration!

1. Glowy Coral Makeup

Coral has always been one of the most popular shades for makeup, especially in Korean makeup because of its versatility to complement any skin tones.

This subtle warm shade will give your skin a bright healthy glow, and since it’s easy to wear you can easily match it with any of your outfits as well.

The key to achieving this look is by incorporating soft coral shades to a dewy skin.

So, for this look you would want to use a lightweight and moisturising formula that will give your skin a natural radiant glow.

The highlight of this look would be using a soft coral shade on your eyes and cheeks to give it a pop of color.

But this doesn't mean you can only use one shade.

You can play around with the shades however you like, because after all makeup is all about creativity!

To complete this look, use a coral colour lipstick and you can even top it off with a layer of clear lip gloss for a more glossy looking lip and hydration.

2. Bold Red Lips

You can never go wrong with a classic bold and sexy red lip.

Whether you’re opting for a natural or fierce look, a vibrant red lip will bring out your features.

Plus, it’s the perfect colour for the Lunar New Year, which means you can rock this look with any of your red outfits.

After all, style is all about aesthetics.

Song Ji Hyo, known for her natural beauty is one of the many Korean actresses who is able to pull off a bright red lip effortlessly

And believe it or not, red lip works best with minimalism.

This means you might not even need makeup at all.

So for those of you who think makeup is a hassle but you still want to look good, then a bright red lipstick shall do the trick!

But if you prefer a more intense look, you can always change up the look by incorporating a darker shade like burgundy eyeshadow with black eyeliner.

Basically, you can use any shade you prefer.

Also, be sure to accentuate your lashes for brighter looking eyes by using a lengthening mascara.

3. Natural Glass Skin Glow

This makeup look is perfect for you if you prefer the natural dewy look.

Besides skincare, you can also achieve the glass skin look with makeup.

It’s that same glowy and fresh look, but with a little more coverage.

It’s all about perfecting your skin before you do your makeup.

So, first thing’s first- get your skin prepped and ready!

One of the important steps to achieving a glass skin is moisturising your skin.

Using a mask before you put on your makeup is the best way to ensure that you have a hydrated skin!

And before you get to makeup, prep your face with moisturizer.

Since this is an au naturel look, you don't need full coverage foundation. Instead, you can use tinted moisturizer that has a lightweight texture, which will give you a subtle glow as well as maximum coverage.

To cover up any blemishes or red spots you might have, you can use a creamy concealer that blends smoothly.

To finish off the glass skin look, you can pop some highlighter onto your cheekbones for some extra glow, and be sure to add some blush too! As for the lips, you can opt for a sheer color lipstick or lip gloss.

4. Glittery Eye Makeup

The glittery eye makeup is a trend that is not dying out anytime soon.

Whether you’re aiming for a subtle or bold touch of sparkle, you can always count on some glitter to make your eyes twinkle and pop!

Any good eye makeup look has to start out with a simple base, so you can pick any eyeshadow colour of your preference to go with the glitter.

If you plan to go for a simpler glitter look, you can choose light shade or just use glittery eyeshadow on itself.

But if you prefer a more vibrant look then you can try pink or orange shades.

For a more dramatic look, you can incorporate it with a cat eye flick using eyeliner.

Be sure not to go too crazy with the glitter though, otherwise it can get really messy!

5. Subtle Beige Makeup

Neutrals are also one of the classics in makeup as the warm tones can be complemented just with any skin tones.

A neutral color scheme is pretty predictable but it doesn't mean it has to be boring, because there's so much you can do with neutral shades!

You can go for a subtle and minimal look (like how Pony did hers in her makeup tutorial), or you could always add some drama by blending in darker shades with eyeliner.

Be sure to prep your skin well and keep it moisturized before putting makeup for a more flawless application!

Because of its versatility, having a neutral eyeshadow palette in your collection is a staple.

Also, it’s perfect for beginners as the colors are easy to wear for any occasion.
